Spider-Man Brand New Day Trailer — Hulk Fight Stuns Comic-Con

Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in theaters July 31, and Sony and Marvel just poured gasoline on the hype fire. At San Diego Comic-Con on July 23, Jon Bernthal crashed Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel with an exclusive extended clip showing Spider-Man and the Punisher fighting the Hulk — six days before the movie opens worldwide. The footage, paired with the newly released final trailer subtitled “Peter’s Journey,” has fans calling this the most anticipated theatrical event of 2026.

The Hall H moment was pure Comic-Con theater. Bernthal, who brings his acclaimed take on Frank Castle from the Netflix and Disney+ Punisher projects into Peter Parker’s world for the first time on the big screen, walked out unannounced to a standing ovation. The clip that followed showed Tom Holland’s web-slinger and the Punisher scrambling to survive a rampaging Hulk in a sequence that attendees described as one of the most intense action set pieces in the franchise’s history.

The pairing alone is a fascinating collision of tones. Spider-Man is Marvel’s most famously reluctant hero when it comes to lethal force, while the Punisher is defined by it. Putting the two of them shoulder to shoulder against an unstoppable force like the Hulk promises the kind of character friction that made the best entries in the series work — and early reactions suggest the film leans into that tension rather than playing it safe.

The final trailer, “Peter’s Journey,” takes a different tack from the bombastic teaser that preceded it. It centers on Peter Parker rebuilding his life after the memory-erasing ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, working a regular job, isolated from Zendaya’s MJ and everyone who once knew him. The footage frames Brand New Day as a back-to-basics street-level story that spirals into something much bigger when the Hulk and the Punisher enter the picture.

Behind the camera, Destin Daniel Cretton — director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings — takes over the franchise from Jon Watts, who helmed the first three Holland films. Cretton has said he wanted the action grounded and physical, with Holland doing more practical stunt work than in any previous entry. The Comic-Con footage backs that up: the fighting is heavier, closer, and noticeably less reliant on weightless CGI acrobatics.

The supporting cast has fueled speculation for months. Alongside Holland and Bernthal, Stranger Things breakout Sadie Sink joins in a still-undisclosed role that has launched a thousand theories, while Mark Ruffalo’s return as Bruce Banner gives the film its wild-card element. Zendaya is back as MJ, though the trailers keep her scenes deliberately vague — a clear signal that her reunion with Peter is being protected as one of the film’s emotional payoffs.

The box office picture is enormous. Industry tracking has Brand New Day debuting between $180 million and $190 million domestically — which would be the biggest opening weekend of 2026 and the second-biggest in Spider-Man franchise history, behind only No Way Home’s pandemic-defying $260 million launch in 2021. Ticket presales crashed servers when they went live earlier this year, echoing the No Way Home frenzy.

That kind of number would be a statement moment for the theatrical business. In a summer where several big-budget releases have underperformed, Hollywood is watching Brand New Day as a referendum on whether event films can still deliver monster openings. Exhibitors have loaded the film onto premium screens, with IMAX and large-format showtimes selling out across major markets weeks in advance.

For Marvel Studios, the stakes stretch beyond one weekend. Brand New Day is positioned as a crucial bridge to Avengers: Doomsday, the Robert Downey Jr.-led event film that dominated the rest of Marvel’s Comic-Con panel. How Peter Parker’s solo story feeds into that larger conflict remains a closely guarded secret, but the Hulk’s prominent role here suggests the connective tissue is stronger than the standalone marketing lets on.

Fan reaction to the Comic-Con material has been overwhelmingly positive. The Hall H clip leaked online within hours — Sony quickly scrubbed the copies — and social media flooded with reactions praising the grounded tone, Bernthal’s chemistry with Holland, and the sheer scale of the Hulk sequence. The final trailer racked up tens of millions of views across platforms in its first days, with the official uploads trending worldwide.

Skeptics have wondered whether a fourth Holland film could recapture the magic after No Way Home’s multiverse spectacle seemingly emptied the toy box. The answer, based on everything shown so far, is that Brand New Day is not trying to top that spectacle — it is trying to strip Peter Parker down to his essentials and rebuild him. That approach mirrors the comic storyline the film borrows its name from, which famously reset Spider-Man’s world to a leaner status quo.

One thing is certain: the wait is nearly over. Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters everywhere July 31, with early preview screenings beginning Thursday evening. Watch the final trailer below and judge for yourself whether Marvel’s friendly neighborhood hero is about to deliver the biggest movie weekend of the year.
