Meta Unveils $299 AI Smart Glasses in Wearable AI Push

Meta has debuted a new line of AI-powered smart glasses, dubbed simply Meta Glasses, with a starting price of $299 — a deliberate move to bring wearable artificial intelligence to a mass-market audience. The launch deepens Mark Zuckerberg's bet that face-worn computers will become a primary gateway to AI, opening a new front in the industry's wearables race.
At $299, the new Meta Glasses undercut the company's existing Ray-Ban Meta models, which start at $379. The lower price reflects a strategy of designing more of the hardware in-house while continuing a partnership with eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica. By widening the price range, Meta is clearly aiming to move smart glasses from a niche gadget toward an everyday accessory.
The glasses ship with Meta AI powered by the company's Muse Spark system from day one, giving wearers hands-free access to an AI assistant. Core features include built-in cameras for photos and video, open-ear speakers, voice controls, real-time translation and tools for navigation, scheduling and on-the-go information searches — all delivered through the frames rather than a phone screen.
Meta is launching the line in three distinct styles. The Meta Adventurer and Meta Fury target different aesthetics and use cases, while a celebrity tie-up called Meta Glasses by Kylie — developed with Kylie Jenner — sits at the top at $399 and offers the option to use Jenner's voice as the on-board AI assistant. The collaboration is a clear play for younger, fashion-forward buyers.
The launch underscores how central wearables have become to Meta's long-term strategy. The company already controls roughly 80% of the AI glasses market, and Zuckerberg has repeatedly framed glasses as the ideal form factor for ambient, always-available AI — a device that can see what the user sees and respond in context without requiring them to look down at a handset.
The timing is notable. Meta's glasses push comes as rivals across Big Tech accelerate their own AI hardware ambitions, from on-device assistants to custom silicon. Positioning an affordable, AI-native wearable as a flagship product lets Meta stake out the consumer category before competitors can establish a foothold of comparable scale.
For consumers, the $299 entry point lowers a key barrier that has kept smart glasses on the fringes of the gadget market. Pairing camera, audio and a capable AI assistant in a familiar eyewear design — at a price closer to a premium pair of sunglasses than a smartphone — could meaningfully expand the addressable audience for the category.
Whether the new lineup converts Meta's market dominance into sustained mainstream adoption will depend on real-world performance, battery life and how useful the AI features prove day to day. But with an aggressive price, a celebrity-backed model and 80% market share already in hand, Meta has positioned its glasses as a centerpiece of its consumer AI ambitions heading into the back half of 2026.
