Travi$ Scott "Owl Pharaoh" Mixtape Review by A-West

Imma start this review off by saying the best song on this whole damn mixtape is "BANDZ" featuring MMG's Philly Ambassador Meek Mill. The beat is menacing but uplifting, club banger anthem type shit. The hook is cliché & generic as any song about throwing money can be, but it’s fucking catchy so it works! I listen to the whole mixtape knowing that automatically you think of Kanye West when you listen to Travi$ Scott. Now that’s not a bad thing, but it’s definitely apparent. I really like when Travi$ makes NON-KANYE style music, its not that it’s original but fits in with the popular music of such acts as future, Chief Keef & etc.

His intro “Meadows Creek” I thought was weird & didn’t understand at all, but it was entertaining. The song "Bad Mood/Shit on you" is interesting because its 2 songs in one. Bad mood starts of as if Travi$ is waking up from a bad dream with random people yelling at him. "Shit on you" is the better half of the song. The hook is catchy & very relatable if you ever wanted to stunt on those who hated on you.

Track 3 is a Banger properly titled "Upper Echelon" featuring the "KING OF THE SOUTH" T.I. who drops a vicious verse bragging about all the royal mischief he keeps up. Travi$ Scott switches his flow & goes for a Chief Keef style verse that fits the song perfect. The beat & hook is sure to have anybody turnt up who hears it thundering through their speakers.  Chaz Interlude (Feat. Toro Y Moi) is totally confusing, it’s just a beat with someone singing lightly on it & then it cuts off.

On the bass thumping "Uptown" Travel & ASAP MOB'S ASAP Ferg declare there monster status as leaders of the new generation. The track is solid, ASAP Ferg drops some funny MARTIN TV show references in his verse, while Travi$ brings his twisted but catchy style to this H-Town/Harlem collabo. This mixtape has some other tracks I think deserve a listen such as Hell of Night which has Kanye "Runaway" groove to it, also the beat switches up mid song & the track bangs even harder. I wish Blocka La Flame would of had been a remix/mash up of Travi$ & his Good Music label mate Pusha T's Blocka song which uses the same beat. MIA & Quintana ft MMG's wale are also solid tracks.

The Best Kanye sounding song on the mixtape is Drive featuring singer James Fauntleroy. I feel it’s really a great put together song with radio/mass appeal. The production is hard knocking, the singing is perfect & Travi$ drops a decent verse. Only thing I don’t like about the mixtape is the track list order. If you’re a fan of Kanye then you’re a fan of Travi$ Scott, so check his music out & see what the hype is all about. Owl Pharaoh is worth the listen.
